I’ve been building websites since 1999. Before that, I was tinkering with HyperCard on the Mac.

The whole journey of how I got into building websites is a story for another day. For now, I want to focus on this site: its purpose, and the technology behind it.

This site runs on Kirby CMS. I’ve been following the Kirby team and using it since 2020. I found it while searching for a simple solution that wasn’t tied to databases or bloated frameworks. I wanted simplicity and speed.

Kirby is written in PHP, which I’ve got some background in, and it can be hosted practically anywhere. What I love most: everything is saved as plain text files, so it loads fast. A big inspiration for me was motherfuckingwebsite.com.

As for the purpose of this site… well, it’s a bit all over the place.

• I’m writing a beekeeping book and want to build the habit of writing consistently.

• I’m in a new phase of my spiritual life, whatever that means, and want to put thoughts and ideas into words.

• I’ve started a new job that’s pushing me deeper into data modeling and engineering best practices.

• I’m focusing more on health as I age, so you’ll likely see some diet and exercise journaling here.

• And, of course, there will be some random off-topic stuff too.
